REQUIREMENTS & SUPPORT

Athletic Requirements

​

The program is open to male and female hockey players who possess a solid skill base and a drive to elevate their game. The students should be highly motivated to maximize their hockey and fitness potentials.

 

 

Academic Requirements & Support

​

Grade 8-12 students must remain in good academic standing. Academic integrity is protected as Physical and Health Education learning outcomes are overseen and evaluated by EMS teaching staff. Educational support provided for all academic areas. Academic success is a priority and an essential aspect in our planning.

​

Earl Marriott Secondary Administration, Counseling Department and PHE Department are all partners in the High Performance Skills Academy program.

Daily Teacher Support

​

Tanner Murray

SD 36 Teacher and Program Coordinator

 

On ice training, fitness training and credited course content instruction will be conducted under the supervision of EMS Teacher, Tanner Murray. Tanner played 3 seasons in the KIJHL with the Revelstoke Grizzlies and 2 seasons in the ACAC with Red Deer Polytechnic Kings. He holds a Degree in Education from the University of Alberta and an Associate Diploma in Kinesiology. He has worked in the Surrey School District as a Physical Education Instructor and Learning Support Teacher for over 15 years. With this experience, he has developed a unique skill set for teaching student athletes how to achieve athletic and academic success. Tanner began coordinating the EMS Academy in 2014.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

All new applicants must submit the Application Form (click button below)

 

Registration begins October 11, 2025 and closes February 28, 2026

 

Completed Application Form must be fully completed and submitted. Coaching references may be required.

 

You will receive an email confirming that EMS has processed your completed application.

Selection for the Hockey Academy 

Priority 1 - Returning students 

Priority 2 - Waitlisted players from previous year

Priority 3 - Lottery for remaining players 

 

Note: Those players not selected via lottery will be placed on a waitlist.

ACADEMY FEES Grades 8-10

High Performance Hockey Skills Academy 8-10 (2 blocks per day in the second semester)

 

Total cost for the 5 month Hockey Academy program is $2,250.00.

PAYMENTS

​

October 15  of Academy season - 1st installment $750.00

February 15 - 2nd installment $750.00

April 15 - 3rd installment $750.00

Total cost for the 5 month Hockey Academy program is $1,125.00.
