PHE Teacher & Hockey Academy Coordinator

TANNER
MURRAY

On ice training, fitness training and credited course instruction will be conducted under the supervision of EMS Teacher, Tanner Murray. Tanner holds a Degree in Education from the U of A and an Associate Diploma in Kinesiology. He has worked in the Surrey School District as a Physical Education Teacher and LST for over 10 years. Tanner played college level hockey and coached at the Midget AAA level in Alberta. He began coordinating the Hockey Academy at EMS in 2014.

MATT
ERHART

Matt played junior hockey with the Surrey Eagles and won the 1998 Royal Bank Cup and played Div. 1 hockey in Quinnipiac. He graduated as the second leading scoring defensemen in school history. Matt has been involved in coaching for 14 years from minor hockey to major junior. Matt was the head coach of the Surrey Eagles from 2010-2016. He led the Eagles to BCHL Championship was named the coach of the year in 2012. Matt most recently coached the Delta Hockey Academy from 2015-2018.

SHANE
KUSS

Shane played junior hockey with the Surrey Eagles, the team that would eventually retire his jersey at the South Surrey Arena. Shane attended the Canucks training camp in 2000 before heading overseas to play professionally. He ultimately returned home to start a career in developing and coaching players. Shane was head coach of the Delta Ice Hawks for 9 years, twice winning the provincial championship and was also the Head Coach and GM of the Surrey Eagles from 2007-2010.

RENGERT

Chris has proven himself to be an excellent Head Coach with SEMI Hockey. His impressive hockey background (including Jr. A and NCAA) and his experience as a  professional trainer, give him the tools necessary to help prepare our Academy players for the rigors of what it will take to play at their best next season. His ability to relate with the players, while maintaining high expectations of character, make him a great instructor and role model both on and off the ice.

Goalie Instructor & Fitness Coach

GREG
MAGGIO

Greg has been working with the HPHSA at EMS since 2018. His recent playing career has given him valuable insight into what it takes for young goalies to be successful at a high level:

Goalie, Victoria Cougars, VIJHL (2015-2016), Valley Wildcats, MJAHL (2016-2017), Campbellton Tigers, MJAHL (2017-2018), Adrian College Bulldogs, ACHA Div. 1 (2018-2019).

Beyond his 'in the net experience', Greg has logged an impressive amount of coaching hours as a head coach with Magic Hockey, MGD, EMS Hockey, and recently as a Fitness Instructor with Semiahmoo Athletic Club.

JOE
SCALI

Joe is a professional fitness coach at the Semiahmoo Athletic Club in White Rock.  In addition to his expertise in training athletes, he brings an impressive hockey background to the Academy. Joe played Jr. A in BC and then NCAA Div. 1 hockey at Cornell University. After graduation, he continued his career playing two seasons of pro hockey in Texas. Joe’s passion for fitness and hockey give him the perfect balance to both motivate and inspire our student athletes.
